Little Girl and Little Boy

  1. LOVE THIS ONE!! I could go on and on about what I see in this one. Am I correct that these aren't Saudi Arabian children? Now, about the reply about what you wish to convey with your pictures, it makes sense for you. I noticed that so many of your shots are in black and white. I agree about the depth. It's kind of odd that something without color can still convey so much feeling. There's actually something like an electrical charge that I feel when I see your pictures in black and white. I love colors, of course, I'm a girl. But there's definitely something deeply emotional about a black and white. It's like perhaps the dazzle of colors is stripped away to reveal the true nature underneath. Either way, you're on a right path for you. You understand photography. You seem to know instinctively what makes the picture worthwhile. You've done well with the diversity as well. So tell me, is there any particular thing that you're drawn to so far? Where's the spark for you?

  2. hmm...you really bring out things about me, i never had the time to think about..hmmm...i told myself before, that i am not much into people photography, back when i am just starting, and will concentrate in b/w, but the when i studied photography, i learned that i have to know every concept and style before i make a choice, i even hate flashes!, but eventually, everything pulls together and i find the lessons and the practices very enriching, what draws me? let me tell you a story, i met a professional photographer one time and we discussed a lot of things, you met him through my other blog, you know, the discrimination thing? anyway, when he looked at my portfolio, he told me that there are 2 kinds of photographers, one who TAKES Pictures and one who MAKES pictures, he told me i was the latter, he explained that I have the quick eye for spotting subjects around me, i see the aesthetics at every angle and I am quick to take the shot, with minimal conceptualization, or composition, he told me i see "it" immediately so i can be a good street photographer or a traveller at that, and he is the other kind, as he takes his time for each photo he does. he plans, set things up before he takes the shot, and mind you, his shots were amazing! neither kind outshines the other, it's just a matter of how we have different knack at things, both can result outstanding photographs, so whenever i do my photowalks, i don't try to see things, i feel the scene, if i feel this scene or this subject or concept is worth the shot, i just clicked away, i go for the moment, (i'm a bit impatient, maybe that's why, lols!) i see, i feel and then i click...i am drawn to the drama, the feeling a subject or a scene conveys, i like my viewers to feel something, joy, sadness, heart, fear, anger...and i'd like to make them think of a story of their own at every picture i take. and if that happens, then that's my reward.

  3. Well said! Feelings are hard to convey but you do an excellent job. I wonder where you were schooled? This all makes perfect sense as well. And the "discriminator" (as I'll call him) actually left you with something very valuable. Did you notice that? He left you with an explanation of yourself, in part. He saw something that you might not have seen. I see that whole encounter as being so important for you in this journey. We have to take from people what we need to improve ourselves with and leave the rest behind on the trail. You understand what I'm saying? I hope when you look back at that man, you can say, "thanks for what you gave me." At first you felt hurt by him, but now, possibly you can feel encouraged by him. And he describes you well. You DO make pictures! Look what one sees. The images you take are sudden..in a moment. That's so very much more interesting than something that someone planned for hours and set props up for in order to capture false moments. I, personally, am NOT interested in such things. Perhaps that's why I don't read Cosmo, or Harper's Bazzar magazines. They aren't portraying natural true events. It's all fake. The women aren't really that beautiful under the makeup and lighting and fancy clothing. The men aren't that good looking either because..for crying out loud...who's pecks are actually that shiny? lol, see what I mean? Give me truth or nothing at all. Keep going, Carlo!!!!
